Tesla asked to delay robotaxi launch by Democratic Texas lawmakers

(Reuters) -A group of Democratic Texas lawmakers has asked Tesla to delay its much-anticipated robotaxi launch in Austin until September, when a new autonomous-driving law is scheduled to take effect. The group of Austin-area lawmakers said in the letter sent on Wednesday that delaying the launch, which CEO Elon Musk said could "tentatively" happen this Sunday, "is in the best interest of both public safety and building public trust in Tesla's operations." If Tesla decides to move forward with a launch this month, the lawmakers asked that Tesla respond with "detailed information" demonstrating how Tesla will comply with the new state law when it launches...

Apple eyes using AI to design its chips, technology executive says

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) -Apple is interested in tapping generative artificial intelligence to help speed up the design of the custom chips at the heart of its devices, its top hardware technology executive said in private remarks last month. Johny Srouji, Apple's senior vice president of hardware technologies, made the remarks in a speech in Belgium, where he was receiving an award from Imec, an independent semiconductor research and development group that works closely with most of the world's biggest chipmakers.
